Breaking News … regarding Children and CoViD-19 in the United States

  • As of 21 Oct 21, 6.3 million children have tested positive for CoViD-19 since the onset of this pandemic
  • Children represent 16.5% of total CoViD-19 cases
  • Hospitalization (24 states and NYC reporting)
  •     ○ Children ranges from 1.6 – 4.3% of total hospitalizations
  • Mortality (45 states, NYC, PR, GU reporting)
  •     ○ Less than 0.26% of CoVid-19 deaths
  • Note: the 2020 U.S. Census reports that there are 74 million children
  •     ○ Approximately 1/3are 12 – 17 years
  •     ○ Approximately 1/3  are less than 12 years

  • • Last week the FDA has approved an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine for administration to children, 11 – 5 years of age
  •     ○ Pfizer’s data revealed an effective rate of 91% in preventing CoViD-19 symptoms
  •     ○ If approved by the CDC, their vaccine may be available for administration by Wednesday, 3 Nov 2021; suggestions prefer that the vaccine should be given by the child’s Pediatrician
  •     ○ The dose received by the child is two, 10mcg (or a third of an adult dose) 21 days apart
  • • The CDC recommends everyone older than 12 get vaccinated
  •     ○ Possible Reactions or Side-effects

                    Headache           Fever

                    Muscle pain       Nausea

 

Adult Booster Vaccination for CoViD-19 has been approved

  • Administered 6 months after receiving your second vaccination
  • Age 65 or older
  • 18-64 years if you are at high risk due to underlying diseases
  • 18-64 years if you are at high risk due to routine CoViD-19 exposure
  • Mix-Match Vaccinationhas been approved, however getting the same dose as the prior two
