Founding Board Member

Shaffdeen Amuwo, PhD, MPH

Shaffdeen Amuwo, PhD, MPH is Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois Chicago. He served the School of Public Health in various capacities from 1983 through 2018, including Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Associate Dean for Urban Health and Diversity Programs, and Student Affairs. He currently is the CEO of Public Health Associates, LLC. He currently serves on the Governing Council for Lagos State University in Nigeria. Dr. Amuwo has his PhD and received his MPH from the University of Illinois Chicago.

Thomas Britt, MD, MPH

Thomas Britt, MD, MPH, served as Chair of the Department of Health Studies of Chicago State University for seven years. He is the current President-Elect, American Association of Public Health Physicians; Chair of the National African American Drug Policy Coalition – Chicago; and Chair of the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer – Chicago.  He served as Principal Investigator, National Cancer Institute (NCI), 2012-2017; during this same time period, he also served as Individual Investigator, for an NCI grant, entitled Educational Program to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening. He is Associate Editor, International Journal of Tropical Diseases and Health. He is a current American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist. He is also a Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified by the International Association of Trauma Professionals. Dr. Britt received his MD and MPH from the University of Illinois Chicago.

Terry Mason, MD, FACS

Terry Mason, MD, FACS has served as Commissioner of Public Health, City of Chicago, and is past Chief Operating Officer of the Cook County Department of Public Health. Dr. Mason previously served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Cook County Health and Hospitals System. He was an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine and the University of Illinois Chicago, Medical School. Dr Mason hosts the “Doctor in the House” radio talk show aired on WVON 1690 am past  29 years and counting. Dr. Mason received his MD from the University of Illinois Chicago.
